MPLX raises distribution 12.5% to $4.84 after $1.2 billion profit

MPLX raised its quarterly distribution 12.5% for the third straight year to an annualized $4.84 per unit, alongside third-quarter net income of $1.2 billion. The higher payout and $1.5 billion of operating cash flow put distributable-cash returns at the center of the next MPLX read.

The story

MPLX said its third-quarter net income attributable to the partnership was $1.2 billion, while net cash provided by operating activities reached $1.5 billion. Adjusted EBITDA attributable to MPLX was $1.9 billion for the quarter.

The partnership also announced a 12.5% increase in its quarterly distribution, the third consecutive annual increase, taking the annualized distribution to $4.84 per unit.

MPLX's reported results add to a longer financial profile that includes $13.0 billion of revenue in fiscal 2025 and a 38.1% net margin. The latest release shifts attention toward the cash-generation capacity supporting the higher distribution rather than revenue growth alone.

The next read will depend on whether operating cash flow and adjusted EBITDA continue to support distribution growth at the new level. MPLX's subsequent quarterly results will provide the next dated check on that coverage.

Our read · Tue, Nov 3

MPLX raised its quarterly distribution 12.5% for the third consecutive year to $4.84 per unit annualized.

Why. The payout increase is backed by $1.5 billion of quarterly operating cash flow and $1.9 billion of adjusted EBITDA, making distribution durability the key operating test. MPLX's fiscal 2025 revenue was $13.0 billion with a 38.1% net margin, but no dated forward event is established here to support a directional call beyond the distribution announcement.

Both cases

The case it holdsMPLX combined a 12.5% distribution increase with $1.5 billion of third-quarter operating cash flow and $1.9 billion of adjusted EBITDA.
The case it breaksThe main opposing case is that one quarter of $1.5 billion in operating cash flow does not by itself establish continued distribution growth or coverage at the new $4.84 annualized level.

What could change this view: A weaker subsequent quarter or reduced operating cash flow would challenge the sustainability of the higher distribution.
